Hurst: Spirit in the Camp Extremely Good - Ipswich Town News

Boss Paul Hurst says the spirit in the camp is extremely good despite the Blues disappointing start to the season.

Asked whether spirits remain high even though Town find themselves bottom of the table and winless after eight Championship matches, Hurst responded: "I’ve got ears and I’ve got people who speak to me so I think we might be trying to fish there regarding one or two comments.

"The spirit in the camp is extremely good. I would imagine there are a couple of players within the group who would like to be in the team and I’d be disappointed if that wasn’t the case and I haven’t fallen out with any players.

"Not to my knowledge, so if they have then I would say that’s a little bit childish because I don’t know about it.”

Hurst is yet to fix on a settled team with changes - usually one or two but in the cases of the Norwich and Brentford matches six and five respectively - and says that’s in part to find a combination of players who will bring that elusive victory.

"A little bit, but not so much a blend,” he reflected. "What I try to do with any squad is [make it so] everyone feels that they’ve got a chance of playing and that’s how I manage.

"And at the minute, some performances have been OK and we’ve stuck with certain things and other parts of it haven’t and that’s probably why changes have been made.

"Before Saturday’s game I’d spoke about making changes irrespective of the score but added to the fact that I wasn’t happy with large parts of that performance, I think naturally there were going to be changes.

"But I’m no different than a lot of [managers]. I think in regard to the [3-5-2] system [against Brentford], there was a genuine thought process behind it and also we haven’t changed that much, there have been little tweaks, not changes.

"I know where we’re trying to go and what we’re trying to do. It hasn’t helped with a couple of injuries at times and then maybe people going away and red cards.

"It’s never quite as simple but I am looking for people to really hit better form and ultimately get that result.

"Again, that’s not to say if you get a result you just stick with it, there can be a lot of things wrong in it, the same as there can be a lot of things right with a performance that doesn’t get you three points.”

Town look set to face a return trip to Blackburn Rovers later in the season after this afternoon’s game was abandoned after 80 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch with the home side 1-0 up and with the Blues down to 10 men.
