We Can Win Title - Burley - Ipswich Town News

Town manager George Burley says that his side can win next season's Nationwide League First Division while playing the style of football that the club have become known for in recent years. Burley was speaking on the day the first team squad began pre-season training.

Burley told the club site: "We are all looking forward to the new campaign and everyone here is determined to do well.

"We want to get back to playing the style of football we have become renowned for over the last five or six years and are confident that can bring us success this season.

"We have great memories of our last season in the Nationwide First Division, when we won the Play-Offs, but this time we want to do better than that and I believe that we have a squad good enough to win the Championship."

The first few days of pre-season training will see mainly muscle-loosening exercises while next week will see the squad move on to a five-day training camp at The Royal Hospital School at Holbrook.

Town used the school's facilities last year and the players were impressed. Simon Thadani, the club's fitness coach, will take most of the sessions as the players' fitness is assessed. Thadani has already been working with a few members of the squad.

After the spell at Holbrook the squad will move on to Goodwood where they will work on players' general fitness before the trip to Denmark and the beginning of the pre-season games.

Only Matt Holland will return for pre-season late due to his international commitments with Ireland, while Darren Bent and Matt Bloomfield will be away with the England squad at the European U19 Championships in Norway in late July.
