Dyer Coaching England U20s - Ipswich Town News

Blues U18s assistant manager Kieron Dyer is spending the international break coaching the England U20s.

Dyer, 39, is assisting U20s head coach Paul Simpson, a one-time Town trialist in his playing days, as the squad train at St George’s Park ahead of the friendlies against Italy at AFC Fylde on Thursday and the Czech Republic in Budejovice next Monday.

Blues loanee Trevoh Chalobah is in the squad for the games, while Town duo Andre Dozzell and Flynn Downes are training but won’t be involved in the matches.

The FA have invited Dyer, who won 33 full England caps in addition to appearances at U20, U21 and B levels, to work with the U20s squad at their next few training camps.

The Ipswich-born former midfielder was appointed to his current role with the Blues at the start of the season working alongside U18s manager Adem Atay, the pair having coached the U16s last season.

The U18s have made a strong start to the season and are currently top of the Professional Development League Two South table on goal difference from Cardiff City.

Meanwhile, we understand winger Gwion Edwards is among those on standby for the Wales squad for their friendly against Spain in Cardiff on Thursday and their UEFA Nations League match with Ireland in Dublin next Tuesday.

Edwards has previously received one senior call back in 2014 for the Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus when a Crawley Town player but didn’t feature in either game.
