Edwards Added to Wales Squad - Ipswich Town News

Blues winger Gwion Edwards has been called into the Wales squad for their UEFA Nations League game against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday. As previously reported, the 25-year-old had been put on standby for the two Wales games during the international break.

Edwards, who has won caps at U19 and U21 levels, has previously received one senior call back in 2014 for the Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus when a Crawley Town player but didn’t feature in either game.

Wales are currently second in Nations League Group B having beaten Ireland 4-1 in Cardiff in their opening match before losing 2-0 in Denmark.

Reflecting on a potential return to the Wales squad last week, Edwards said: "I was on the bench twice for the European 2016 qualifiers and I was in the provisional squad for the last two games, but when it was narrowed down I wasn’t picked.

"Hopefully, one day I will get the chance. There’s been a good atmosphere around the squad for a few years now and they’ve done well.

"Ryan Giggs has come in and he’s a big name. I would love the chance to show everyone what I can do.”
