Hurst Hoping Nydam Gets More First-Team Action at St Johnstone - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Paul Hurst hopes on-loan midfielder Tristan Nydam will see more first team action with St Johnstone in the weeks ahead.

While fellow loanees Luke Woolfenden and Josh Emmanuel have been regulars for Swindon and Shrewsbury respectively, the 18-year-old, who joined the Scottish Premiership side on a half-season loan in August, has so far made only two sub appearances for the Perth-based club.

Ben Morris has made only one sub appearance in the league for his loan side, Forest Green Rovers, in addition to two starts in the Checkatrade Trophy, while Aaron Drinan and Pat Webber have been in and out of the team at Sutton United and Braintree.

"There are few of the lads, Ben Morris is another one who hasn’t had too much game time,” Hurst reflected.

"As much as I would like them to be in the team and that’s the idea of sending lads out, there’s also a part of it off the pitch, dealing with a little bit of adversity, dealing with a change of scenery and environment.

"And that’s part of growing up. Anyone who is fortunate enough to be at a football club, get in the team and just play all the time and then finish their career is extremely lucky. The game’s often not like that and life in general isn’t.

"As much as I would like to see them playing, I look at it from a manager’s point of view, and I’ve done it myself in the past. If I feel that they would benefit the team and are in the best place at this moment in time to be in there, I’m going to play them because I want to win games of football. So for whatever reason that’s not quite the case.

"I think in Tristan’s instance he’s joined a team that were doing quite well, they’ve now probably had a run of results that have not been as good [St Johnstone have lost four in a row in all competitions having previously only lost once] and I think speaking to people at the club that have had contact, we’re hoping that he might get to see some more action moving forwards.”
