Lambert: Imbalance in Squad Needs Rectifying - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Lambert believes the squad he has inherited at Town is unbalanced in a number of areas which will need to be addressed in the January transfer window.

Lambert has said the current squad needs some help with an experienced out and out number nine almost certain to be among his January targets.

"I think the squad is unbalanced, not just in one or two positions I think it’s unbalanced in a number of positions which I think needs rectifying,” he said.

"I think there are areas where they do need somebody to come in in January to give us a hand, I think that’s apparent. I think it needs to be a little bit more balanced and we have to wait and see.”

Lambert says he doesn’t yet know what sort of budget he’ll be working with: "Not at this moment. As I said before, I only just came in here just over a week ago and that’s furthest from my mind.

"It’s been about trying to get the best out of the guys that are here and give them a chance to go and prove that they can do it. But I know they need a bit of help and that’s what I’m trying to do.”

With no one likely to come in before January, what can be done to add to Town’s goal threat with the Blues the second-lowest scorers in the Championship with 12.

"I thought on Saturday we were excellent. I hear that argument, that we can’t score. We can score, we threatened a lot of times on Saturday and with a bit of luck we would have won the game,” he reflected.

"I was pleased with the way we played, pleased with the performance, with the team and all we needed is that little break but I won’t criticise for getting into positions but can’t get a goal.

"Where I do criticise is if they’re not in the positions and on Saturday they were excellent, I couldn’t have asked for any more.”
