Loanee Graham Training With Oxford and Set for Town Exit - Ipswich Town News

Loanee winger Jordan Graham is training with League One Oxford United with his season-long spell with the Blues looking certain to be cut short in January.

Graham, who previously had a short stint with Town in 2013/14, rejoined the club in August and made three starts and one sub appearance without scoring under Paul Hurst but has not featured under Paul Lambert.

The 23-year-old was previously with Lambert during his time at Aston Villa and Wolves with the two not always enjoying a harmonious relationship due to disciplinary issues.

Although on a season-long loan the Blues are able to curtail his spell in January, which they appear certain to do, but will continue to pay their share of his wages in the meantime.

Oxford boss Karl Robinson has revealed that Graham, who had a spell on loan at the Kassam Stadium in 2015, is training with his club ahead of a potential switch once the transfer window opens.

"He’s a player I tried to sign in the summer,” he told the Oxford Mail. "When we saw he wasn’t playing for Ipswich we contacted Wolves and I said, ‘Can we be a home for him for two months?’ in the hope we can get it done in January.

"They said yes and we spoke to the player, who basically wanted to walk here. He’s getting a place outside Oxford and will train with us for two months in the hope we get a deal done in January.

"It just shows the reputation we’ve got for young players here. People might wonder why would Jordan Graham come to a team who are where we are. It's because he knows we’re good.

"He trained yesterday and said it was one of the best training sessions he’s been involved in. It was a case of us requesting an opportunity from Wolves and they said it was fine.

"We tried to keep it quiet, but we’re open to the elements at the training ground so it was always a hard one, especially when he was so dominant when he was here."

Graham's all but certain exit along with Jon Walters's spell from Burnley being formally ended in January will mean the Blues have only four players on loan. That figure will be reduced to three - Trevoh Chalobah, Matthew Pennington and Tayo Edun - once Janoi Donacien's permanent leave to remain is finally confirmed.
