Town have been linked with a January move for Norwich City winger or right-back Ben Marshall.
According to The Sun, manager Paul Lambert is keen for the 27-year-old, who played for him at Blackburn and at Wolves, to join him at Portman Road on loan.
Marshall joined Norwich on a four-year deal in the summer from Wolves for an undisclosed fee but hasn’t featured since August.
The Salford-born former England U21 international is very much the experienced Championship campaigner Lambert is looking to add to his squad on loan during the transfer window.
Although seeing him primarily as a winger, Lambert was impressed with his performances at right-back during their time together at Ewood Park.
"He’s been excellent playing right-back,” Lambert said in February 2016. "Funnily enough I still see his talent being further forward up the pitch because he can beat people and he’s got a terrific knack of picking a pass or a shot.
"But he likes playing right-back and, to be fair to him, he’s doing ever so well in that role, and to get goals from that position, well there’s not too many you can say that about. Ben has been very good.”
Having been a youth player with Manchester United and Crewe Alexandra, Marshall was at Stoke where he failed to break into the first team but spent time on loan at Northampton, Cheltenham, Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday before joining Leicester in 2012.
He moved on to Blackburn in 2013, then Wolves four years later when Lambert paid a fee of £1.2 million for him and was on loan at Millwall during the second half of last season.
Yesterday, owner Marcus Evans met with general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill and director of football Dave Bowman prior to the 1-0 victory over Wigan to further discuss the Blues’ January plans having held talks with Lambert at Playford Road earlier in the week.
