Lambert Confirms Dawkins Training With Town - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Lambert has confirmed that former Derby and San Jose Earthquakes winger Simon Dawkins, 31, is currently training with Town, as TWTD revealed on Saturday.

"He's just training,” Lambert said. "Somebody I knew asked if he could come in and train. He's getting fitter and better, Simon.

"He had a massive season at Derby a few years ago when they were going for promotion. It was no problem for me. I'll just have a look at him and see how he does."

Asked what he likes about the former Tottenham academy youngster, he added: "I just think he's effective. He can make things happen at the top end of the pitch, I think that's important.

"He's a little bit down on fitness levels - that's normal - but the way he is with the ball, he's very good.”

Dawkins, who left the San Jose Earthquakes in February, had spells on loan with Leyton Orient, an earlier stint in the MLS with the Earthquakes, Aston Villa and Derby while a player at White Hart Lane.

In January 2014 the Edgeware-born left-sided wideman was sold to Derby for £500,000 without having broken into the Spurs first team.
Two years later, the 19-times-capped Jamaica international moved back to the Earthquakes in January 2016.

Following his Earthquakes departure, Dawkins came close to joining Minnesota United and then spent time on trial with League One sides Charlton and Luton in the summer but wasn’t offered terms by either club.
