Lambert: Quaner Best as a Number Nine - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Paul Lambert says he sees new loan signing Collin Quaner as more of a number nine than a wide player and believes the Huddersfield man and Will Keane, who joined on loan from Hull City last week, will add a physical presence and a goal threat to his side.

"We needed that,” Lambert admitted. "I saw Collin when he was playing for Union Berlin a few years ago. And then obviously David Wagner took him to Huddersfield and they had a brilliant season.

"He knows the league, he’s scored goals in it, he’s played in the Premier League. He knows what it takes.

"The only thing he’s not got is probably match fitness because he’s not played as much. But any player you’re bringing in at the minute, you’ve got to contend with that at times.

"But Collin’s fitted in really, really well and I’m looking forward to working with him. I thank Huddersfield for letting him come down. Hopefully he does for us what he did for Huddersfield.”

He confirmed he sees him as a number nine to play down the middle: "I do, I think the way he plays in my own opinion I think he’s a better centre forward than he is a wide player.

"I know he can do it but I think he’s a better centre forward and he and Will Keane will add strength and ability in the forward areas.”
