Town manager Paul Lambert has revealed Janoi Donacien and Danny Rowe are poised for loan moves, but there has been no interest in Jonas Knudsen as yet and loan moves for Jordan Roberts have broken down.
"Janoi looks like he could go, and Danny Rowe looks like he could go out,” he said. "We’ll have a look at it. I’m just waiting for things to be confirmed.”
Even if they do go out might they have futures with the Blues beyond the summer? "First and foremost the lads have got to play, I think that’s important. My job is to try and make this football club as good and strong as it possibly can be.
"Those two lads definitely need games. They’re two lads who haven’t featured as much under myself, I can only pick 18 guys.”
Earlier in the week, it was reported that Roberts was considering whether to move to Bradford, Plymouth or the MK Dons on loan with deals said to have been agreed with all three clubs, but Lambert says potential switches have broken down for the winger or striker who signed for the Blues from Crawley Town in the summer.
"I think there were teams wanting him and then things broke down and were back on and then broke down again, so I don’t know quite where we’re at with it,” he said.
"I think probably Jordan’s agent is talking to clubs to see what’s going on but for some reason it seems to keep breaking down.”
Lambert dismissed suggestions Andre Dozzell might be available for loan: "Not at the minute. Andre I think is doing really well in training. I think he’s another big talent.
"For me, for Andre to go out on loan, it would have to be the right club that suits him the way he plays. So, I’m not sure on that one.”
He also played down the chances of the likes of Jon Nolan, Kayden Jackson and Gwion Edwards being allowed out on loan, despite having dropped down the pecking order following January’s recruitment drive.
"No, because those lads, I know what they can do,” the Blues boss added. "But we had to get some sort of different way, we couldn’t always rely on the lads, it was really tough for them, they needed help, which I always said would happen.
"I won’t let anybody go out on loan if I don’t think it’s right for the club. Gwion’s been really good for us, Jon’s done really well as well, so there’s no way I can sit and say lads are just going to go because they’ve dropped out of the 18.
"It’s a squad game, you need that 22, 23-man squad to play all these games. You just have to do your utmost to get back in the side.”
Left-back Jonas Knudsen, who is out of contract in the summer, has indicated he’d like to move on elsewhere but Lambert says the club has received no interest, despite Stoke and Middlesbrough having been linked in the summer.
More recently, Danish clubs FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland and Fortuna Düsseldorf were reported to be interested, while we understand West Brom have been monitoring Knudsen’s situation of late.
"Somebody’s got to come in for you and I’ve not heard anything at all,” Lambert said when asked whether Town had received any approaches.
"We’ve had good dialogue with Jonas, absolutely no problem at all, I think he wants to have one eye on something, which I can’t stop, it was before my time.
"If he’s not going to be here in the long term then we have to look at something else, that’s normal. We just can’t go with somebody we think is going to be here for a few months and then go. It’s a difficult situation for everybody and that’s why we had to bring in Callum Elder to help.”
Regarding Tristan Nydam, who returned from his loan spell at St Johnstone earlier in the month, Lambert says he is weighing up a further spell for the 19-year-old.
"I won’t send them out if I don’t think it’s right for them and I don’t think they’re going to get any game time, which was happening,” he reflected.
"I don’t want lads just to go out there and train, they’re better training with us. That doesn’t make sense.”
Lambert is hoping the increased competition for places elevates performances: "It should do, if you’re up for the fight and you want to take that challenge on you think, ‘I’m up for this’.
"And that’s what you need, you need people to take the challenge on. I had that in my own career. If it was good enough for myself, it’s certainly good for other ones to have that competition.
"As soon as you stop looking over your shoulder as a footballer thinking there’s no competition, you’ll never progress. You need that fear factor in you to perform.”
Has he noticed an additional edge in training? "As I’ve said, it’s always been upbeat, it’s always been high intensity. That is important for me as I think you always train the way you play if you can.
"For me that’s really, really vital and you have to be ready for the training sessions and perform and be ready for every game. And, to be fair to the lads, every training session they’ve been very good.”
Meanwhile, away from Town, the week's main talking point in the Championship has been the Spygate scandal involving Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa.
The Argentinian admitted sending a representative to watch a Derby training session and that he has done the same to all this season's opponents, including the Blues, before holding a 40-minute press conference featuring a PowerPoint presentation outlining his approach to assessing opposition sides yesterday.
"I don’t think I’ve ever had it done, the only thing I would say is that if you’ve got your own training ground, how do people get in?" Lambert pondered.
"Frank Lampard’s probably done his preparation never thinking in a million years that that would happen.
"I don’t think it’s right. Everybody’s got a different way, but regarding presentations, that’s entirely up to him what he does.”
Does he believe Leeds should be punished? "That’s up to other people to decide.”
