Lambert: A Thanks From Me to Fans for the Support We've Received - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Lambert says paying for fans’ coach travel to today’s game at Blackburn was a thank-you for their support since he took over at the club.

Fifty supporters embarking the coach at Portman Road this morning found a letter from Lambert in which he said he would pay their travel for the 500-mile round-trip to Ewood Park, £35 each and £1,850 in total.

"From the day I walked in the door, they’ve been brilliant with me, they really have,” he said when asked about his gesture. "The support we get is an incredible support.

"It’s not normal in the situation when you’re bottom of the table that they keep coming and they keep that vocal support there and I don’t think it was too much for me [to pay for their travel].

"It’s not a PR stunt, it’s nothing like that, nothing at all, if that was the case I would have done that at every club I was at and I would have been skint right enough for doing that!

"It’s the first time I’ve done it but I felt I owed it to them because of the support and everything like that.

"I want to stay at the club, I think it’s a great club, it just needs that little bit of help and hopefully we’ll give it and I’ll give everything I’ve got to it. It’s a thanks from me to them for the support we’ve received as staff and as a team.”
