Lambert: Rowe and Roberts Needed Games - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Lambert says Danny Rowe and Jordan Roberts have been allowed to join Lincoln on loan for the rest of the season as they needed to play games.

Rowe, 26, moved to the Imps for his second spell with them at the end of last week and scored twice in his full debut as they won 2-0 at Yeovil on Tuesday, while Roberts joined him at Sincil Bank yesterday.

"The lads needed games,” Lambert said when asked if the duo have futures at Portman Road. "We had too many players with the lads coming in so we had to let lads go out and play games.

"Hopefully the two lads will go out and do well. Danny scored a couple of goals the other night, Jordan will do fine for them.

"I think the main thing for us is that it’s not about individuals, it’s for the club and we have to do everything we can to stay in this league.”

Roberts, 25, has revealed Lincoln wanted to sign him in the summer after he left Crawley and prior to him joining the Blues.

”Rowey told me plenty of positive things about the club when we were together at Ipswich," Roberts told the Imps official site.

"Danny and Nicky [Cowley] wanted me here in the summer, but it didn't come around like the opportunity has this time.

"I wanted to come to a club on the up and with a great fanbase and from what I’ve heard, a very tight-knit group.”

Like Rowe, Roberts is aiming to make a positive start to his time with the League Two leaders.

"For him to come somewhere where he can play and hit the ground running like he did in the week is perfect, and hopefully I can follow in his steps when I get out there, take my chance, and keep the wheels moving on the train,” he added.

"Every player goes out there and sets themselves with goals and targets, but I just want to hit the ground running and take my opportunity.

"I look to try and excite the crowd as much as possible and bring strength, power, pace, while scoring and assisting goals for the team.

"To give that threat in the final third and to keep the boys moving in the right direction is what I’m hoping I can add to the team.”

Lambert says no one else in his squad has asked about going out on loan with the likes of Gwion Edwards, Kayden Jackson and Jon Nolan still in his thoughts even if their opportunities have been more limited lately.

"They’ve very much still part of it, you’ve got to force your way into the side and stay in,” he continued. "That’s all over the world in football, you’ve got your competition breathing down your neck.

"What I don’t want is people at the first sign of adversity thinking, ‘Can I go?’. Well, no you can’t. Stay here and help. That’s football. You can’t let everybody go out. Everybody that’s here it’s all hands to the pump, as they say.”

He added: "Nolan’s done really well, but due to the form of other people and as I had to change it after the Accrington game, which I did, [he’s not been in the team].

"But everybody’s part of it, I don’t view anybody as more or less important than anyone else, the ones that are here are every bit as important as each other.”
