Collins and Chambers Back in Training - Ipswich Town News

Town central defensive duo James Collins and Luke Chambers are back in training ahead of Saturday’s game at Wigan.

Collins has missed the last four matches with a hamstring problem, while the Blues skipper has been suffering with a foot problem and has missed three of those games.

"James Collins is training, he’s doing well training, whether this one’s a bit early I don’t know,” manager Paul Lambert said. "Luke Chambers is training, we’ll see how he is tomorrow.

"We’ve still got that bug going about and one or two lads are still feeling a little bit of that and we’ll have to see how we are.”

Lambert confirmed that midfielder Flynn Downes missed the 1-1 draw with Stoke last weekend due to the bug but revealed striker Ellis Harrison has picked up a niggle.

"Ellis has hurt his hamstring at the minute but he’s doing OK, he’s OK,” the Town boss added.

"Flynn definitely had it during the Derby game and all of a sudden it kicked in after that and he couldn’t play but he’s a lot better this week.”

Cole Skuse was back on the bench against the Potters having been unwell and Lambert says the 32-year-old wasn’t up to playing last weekend.

"He had the virus as well, he’d missed all week with it and had sickness,” he added. "The lads had performed well [against Derby] so there was no real need for me to change too much.

"But Cole was just coming back from the bug. It was a big ask actually to put him on the bench, let alone anything else. But I decided to put him on just for his presence but he still wasn’t 100 per cent.”

Regarding long-term absentees Emyr Huws, who recently had fluid on his calf as he continued his comeback from his knee injury, and Tom Adeyemi, who underwent surgery on the achilles problem he picked up in pre-season, Lambert says they’re still a fair distance off a return to action.

"They’re doing OK, they’re still way off it,” he continued. "I think they’re in a better place but it’s as frustrating as anything for those guys.

"Forget anything else, just for those two it’s frustrating for them, not being able to go out on the grass, not even training with us at all.

"Tom has done a little bit of a run, Emyr’s done a little bit with the physio and things like that but they’re still a long way away.”

Is it now unlikely that they’ll feature this season? "I don’t know, I really don’t know. Sometimes I think the lads are getting back and then all of a sudden it breaks down. You can’t put pressure on them, hopefully they’re going to be OK.”
