Burley Against Windows - Ipswich Town News

George Burley has hit out against transfer windows. These come into force this season with clubs unable to trade in players from August 31st until the next window opens on January 1st.

There are fears that clubs in precarious financial positions will now not be able to sell players in order to meet cash short-falls, a situation that the Football League is less than happy with.

They, with the support of the Premier League, continue to fight to keep the existing system.

The Town boss is behind them: "You always want to improve your team and most clubs need to sell players to balance their books. The window closes at the end of August and doesn't open again until January and that is a long period, especially for smaller clubs, where they are not going to have a chance to get extra revenue in.

"It adds pressure to managers because it makes it more difficult to move players, you don't have as much time to sell them."

"The Football League are trying to fight it but it is really out of our hands now. The Premier League have agreed to do it and I would have thought it is virtually impossible now to stop the rule coming in as it is a FIFA directive."

Earlier this summer new loan rules were introduced which allow clubs to make ten loan signings in a season, up to five at the same time. The Town boss has welcomed these.
