Youngster Signs - Ipswich Town News

Reports in the Midlands say Town have signed 16-year-old former Coventry Academy striker Craig Reid. The striker, released by the Sky Blues at the end of the season, impressed both Town and Arsenal at exit trials.

Back in April Reid, who scored 12 goals last season, was one of a number of young players shown around The Blues' Academy facilities.

Reid says he is glad to be making a new start: "Both clubs [Town and Arsenal] said they were interested in me and I went for trials but felt that I would have a better chance at Ipswich and was really impressed with the set up and how friendly everyone was.

"I was disappointed not to be kept on by my home town club but we left on good terms and from what I was told it was all to do with the financial problems at the club rather than not wanting me.

"I am just looking forward to making a fresh start and delighted that I have been able to find another club."

Academy striker Dean Bowditch is likely to be in international action again on Sunday when the England U17s take on Brazil, the final game in the four-team tournament currently being held in the Midlands.

Bowditch, who scored to superb goals on Thursday as England beat the Czech Republic 2-0, is likely to start up front in the U17s usual 4-3-3 formation.

Sky Sports are covering both the England-Brazil and Italy-Czech Republic matches. Both games are at Oxford's Kassam Stadium with the Italians and Czechs kicking off at 1pm and the England match starting at 3.30pm.

England are currently heading the competition's league table and a draw against the Brazilians would be enough to win it.
