McKendry on Trial at Bohemians Prague - Ipswich Town News
Blues midfielder Conor McKendry, who is set to be released at the end of the season, is on trial with Czech side Bohemians Prague.
The 20-year-old Northern Irishman has spent the last week with the Czech top-flight club, who Town beat on their way to the 1980/81 UEFA Cup, and played in a game for a Bohemians side over the weekend. He also watched Tuesday’s international friendly between the Czech Republic and Brazil, which the South Americans won 3-1.
McKendry, who spent time on trial at Wigan in January and was on loan at Lowestoft earlier this season, joined Town as a full-time scholar in 2015 having previously been with Glenavon.
The former Northern Ireland U16 and U17 international featured for the first team during pre-seasons under Mick McCarthy but without making a competitive senior appearance, although he was on the bench for last season’s Carabao Cup tie at Crystal Palace.
Town faced Bohemians Prague in October and November 1980 in the second round of their successful UEFA Cup run, winning 3-0 - John Wark (2) and Kevin Beattie - at Portman Road in the first leg and losing 2-0 away in the second when eponymous penalty legend and current club chairman Antonin Panenka was one of the scorers.
