Taylor: We're Always Planning Ahead - Ipswich Town News

Assistant manager Stuart Taylor says Town’s planning for next season is already under way with the Blues’ pre-season programme in place.

Asked whether their planning for next season had started and whether players are already being actively targeted, Taylor said: "We always plan ahead and we always look ahead, and we always make sure everything is in place.

"We’re actively doing stuff and we’re looking forward to next season, we’re looking forward to pre-season, and everything is in place, it’s all planned and the games are sorted.”

He says the recruitment net is being cast widely, not just domestically: "We’ve always looked to see what players are better than what we’ve got, as simple as that and that won’t change, if they’re better than what we’ve got, then we’ll be interested.”

The former Limerick manager, who was also Paul Lambert’s assistant at Wolves and Stoke, says he has watched some League One football this season.

"You always keep an eye on it anyway because you look to see if there are any players that can come in and improve on what you’ve got,” he said.

"It doesn’t matter what club you’re at, you always look at the clubs that are in and around you and the leagues that are in and around you.

"And also as you’ve just mentioned there other countries, you’re always keeping your eye on the ball everywhere.”

As revealed in February and subsequently confirmed by Paul Lambert, the Blues are off to Germany for their pre-season training camp where the Town manager has taken his previous clubs and where he played for Borussia Dortmund. Taylor says he and the rest of the staff are looking forward to it.

"Without a doubt, we’ve got big Jim [Henry, Town’s fitness coach] with us as well, and that’s his bread and butter for the fitness element of it, and as I say, everything’s in place," he said.

"We’ve done all that and it’s been organised for quite some time, so we’re always looking ahead and seeing what’s around the corner, how can we improve things and make things better.

"Even though it’s in place we’ll still be looking to tweak it and make it better as we get closer to the date. I’m looking forward to my holiday first of all before we start going back in on pre-season if that’s alright.”

Keeper Dean Gerken is one of a number of players whose contracts are up at the end of the season but Taylor felt he was unable to comment on that situation.

"I think that’s a conversation or the manager,” he said. "The gaffer will deal with all that in terms of players contracts and different things, he’ll sit down with Marcus [Evans] and Lee [O’Neill] and do all that.”
