Town Among Clubs Linked With Benfica Striker - Ipswich Town News
Town are one of a number of clubs who reportedly could renew their interest in Benfica striker Chris Willock, who is said to be set to leave the Portuguese club.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola West Bromwich, Hull City, Queens Park Rangers, the Blues and Norwich City were all keen on former Arsenal trainee Willock in January but Benfica weren’t prepared to allow him to depart.
However, it’s reported that Benfica are now set to allow Willock to exit on a permanent basis after the 21-year-old failed to break into the first team at the Estadio da Luz and that those clubs could renew their interest.
Londoner Willock joined Benfica having come through Arsenal’s academy, who joined aged five, in the summer of 2017, signing a five-year contract. For Benfica’s B side Willock has scored 22 goals in 63 games.
The 5ft 10 in tall former England U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 international made two sub appearances in the League Cup for the Gunners.
Town are certainly keen on adding strikers to their squad ahead of their League One campaign but the Blues would appear unlikely to be in a position to pay a fee for Willock.
They would also almost certainly be outgunned by the other clubs said to be interested in even if there proves to be some truth to the link.
