Lambert: Another Striker Would Be Great - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Lambert says it would be great to add another frontman to his strike force having already signed James Norwood from Tranmere.

Asked whether he needs more strikers with only Norwood and Kayden Jackson fit from those who ended the season, Lambert said: "I’ve got Jordan Roberts as well, so I think we need one or two as well somewhere else to try and help and if we get another striker, great.

"If you’ve got four strikers then you’ve got to try and keep everybody happy, there’s a lot of games that can be thrown at us, you can be playing 61 or 62 games quite easily, we’re going to need everybody.

"We’re not a good enough side to rely on one or two people, we’re going to need everybody and I think it’s important that everybody gets games.”

Will Keane impressed when on loan at Portman Road in the second half of last season, during which time he netted three goals while also spending much of his time on the sidelines due to injury. The 26-year-old was released at the end of the season by Hull City and is currently a free agent.

Asked whether Keane is still on his radar, Lambert said: "I don’t know, Will’s obviously got the rehab on his hamstring at the minute, Will’s probably still rehabbing with that.

"That’s what the situation is. We’ll have to wait and kind of see what Will’s doing at this moment. I don’t know whether he might be on holiday or if the rehab is still going on. At the minute, I need everybody fully fit to perform.”

Regarding Ellis Harrison’s departure for Portsmouth last week for £450,000, he added: "The club got the offer and we said, ‘Okay maybe if we’re trying to get James in with four strikers, which would be hard to carry on that side of it.

"And we thought Eilis maybe wanted to go as well, it’s been hard with him here with injuries and things like that.

"There’s no problem with Ellis, he’s a good guy and we just never had him really fit. I made a decision, and there’s no ill feeling or animosity at all, just a decision we made.”

Regarding Roberts, who was back at pre-season training having spent the end of the season on loan at Lincoln, Lambert said: "Jordan did well when he first came in, and it was tough after that. We let him out on loan to Lincoln, but Jordan led the line for us really well in the first few games.

"As I said before, a lot of things can happen between now and the end of the window, and we’ll see what happens.”
