Reserves Win Again - Ipswich Town News

Town's youthful reserve side beat Peterborough United 3-1 at Bent Lane this afternoon. All the goals came in the first half of a game where the Blues were usually on top.

Richard Naylor was the only senior player in the squad, however, he missed out due to a neck injury. The striker collided with Andy Marshall in training yesterday and after a fitness test this morning was ruled out.

Peterborough went ahead after ten minutes, Howard Fotherington rising unchallenged to head in a corner form the left.

The Blues were swiftly back on terms a minute or so later when Steve Burton ran on to a ball through the middle, kept his composure and beat the keeper.

On the half hour Richard Logan put Town ahead when Burton laid the ball wide to Ian Westlake who crossed for Logan to head in.

Five minutes later the scoring was completed when Matt Bloomfield put a ball through to Steve Burton who again finished well.

Posh manager Barry Fry felt that Town were too good a side for his team. He told TWTD: "Ipswich were too strong for us, simple as that. We had a lot of kids in after playing another game last night."

Fry also says he feels that Town have what it takes to win promotion: "Ipswich will bounce back first time out. They are an example of how a club should be run. There are excellent facilites, a good chairman and a good manager."

Town: Peat, Artun (Snowdon 46), Richards, Smith (Dickinson 46), J Miller, Bonwick (Chaffey 46), Abidallah, Bloomfield, Burton (Bowditch 60), Logan and Westlake.

An Old Git report will follow later.
