Town are among a number of clubs said to be eyeing Dundalk defender Cameron Dummigan.
According to Teamtalk, Grimsby have had a bid for the 23-year-old rebuffed by the League of Ireland champions, while the Blues, Luton, Millwall, Lincoln and Forest Green are also keen.
Former Northern Ireland U21 skipper Dummigan is primarily a right-back but also operates at right midfield and as a left-back.
The Lurgan-born defender began his career with Cliftonville before moving to join Burnley’s youth set-up.
In 2015 he joined Oldham on loan, then signed for the Latics on a permanent basis in the summer of 2016. He left Boundary Park in January to move to Dundalk.
Town currently have Josh Emmanuel and Janoi Donacien as their right-back options but with neither yet established in Paul Lambert’s side the Blues could still be looking to add someone to play in that role.
However, Lambert made it clear following Saturday’s game at Paderborn that there is no money to spend on fees, which seems likely to rule out Dummigan even if there is something to the reported interest.
