Norwood: Special Things Can Happen When You’re Together - Ipswich Town News

New striker James Norwood believes there's a togetherness in the Town squad that can lead to special things happening.

Norwood joined the Blues on a free transfer from Tranmere earlier in the summer and is likely to make his first appearance in a Town shirt at the Interwetten Cup in Meppen on Sunday having returned to pre-season late following his League Two play-off involvement with his previous club.

The 28-year-old says he has enjoyed the club’s pre-season training camp in Germany, which runs until Monday when they fly back to the UK.

"It’s been good, we’re in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do so the all lads are together,” the striker told iFollow Ipswich.

"It’s brilliant, it’s bonding, it’s just training and working hard and that’s what we need to do.

"The club’s obviously gone down a league and we’re going to have to work hard to get up, we’re going to have to outwork people.”

Norwood says he has settled into the squad quickly and believes there’s a strong bond between the players.

"I love them!” he said. "Big Tommy the goalkeeper [Tomas Holy], I keep telling him to stop standing next to me at dinner because he’s about 6ft 9.

"I get on really well with the older lads and even the younger lads have got something about them. There’s a togetherness in the squad and special things can happen when you’re together.”

Regarding his own fitness following his extended break, Norwood says he has made good progress and has now stepped up and is working alongside the rest of the squad.

"Brilliant, I joined in today, did a double session for the first time,” he added. "Me and Judgey [who was also given additional time off] have been running by ourselves but obviously the coaches thought I was fit enough to join in today.”
