Lambert: Garbutt Will Be an Asset - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Lambert believes new loan signing Luke Garbutt will be an asset to his side, highlighting the Everton man’s delivery as one of his main attributes.

Garbutt, 26, joined the Blues on loan for the season from the Toffeemen last week and joined up with the squad in Germany but wasn’t involved in the Interwetten Cup games at Meppen yesterday. He is likely to make his first appearance in a Town shirt at Colchester, one of his former loan clubs, on Friday.

"I think he has an incredible left foot and he puts incredible balls into the box and his delivery is fantastic," Lambert told iFollow Ipswich in a lengthy interview at the end of last week.

"Technically he's a gifted footballer and his set plays are excellent, so hopefully he'll add something to us. I'm looking forward to working with him.”

Garbutt is primarily a left-back - and that appears where Lambert plans to use him - but finished last season playing at left wing for his last loan side Oxford.

"If players can do it then that’s great but I know where I want to play him,” the Blues manager continued.

"His delivery from wide areas, whether it's left-back or left wing is fabulous so he'll be an asset to us that's for sure."

Garbutt said after signing for the Blues that he is looking for a club where he can find a home with his Everton contract unlikely to be extended at the end of the season and having spent the last few seasons on loan at a variety of clubs.

"He needs somewhere to settle as well, having always been out on loan,” Lambert continued.

"A lot of water has to go under that bridge to see where he goes with it but as a guy and as a professional footballer he's somebody who wants to do well. Along with Norwood and Holy I think he'll be a really good asset."
