Defender Webber Joins Wigan - Ipswich Town News

Young Blues defender Pat Webber has joined Wigan Athletic on a two-year permanent deal having spent time on trial with the Latics in January.

As TWTD previously reported, the Lancastrians and Millwall, where the 20-year-old also spent time on trial in January, were both keen to sign him towards the end of last season but at the time the Blues were loath to allow him to depart.

Although there is no fee, it's understood Town would receive cash if he progresses into the first team. Initially, Webber is viewed as an U23s player with his move having gone through prior to Thursday's Championship deadline.

Would like to thank everyone at @IpswichTown for the last 4 years, I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and made some great memories. Time for a new challenge now at @LaticsOfficial, can’t wait to get going! Thanks to everyone for the kind messages👍🏼 pic.twitter.com/GiBNuzenJG

Webber, whose father Damien played for Millwall under ex-Blues boss Mick McCarthy, signed for the Town academy from Worthing in 2016 after a trial.

The centre-half or left-back’s only senior appearance came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in August 2017. While with the Blues he also spent spells on loan with Braintree.
