Forward Jack Lankester says yesterday’s operation on his back was a success and that he is now focusing on the road to recovery.
The 19-year-old sustained a second stress fracture in his back during pre-season, a similar injury having curtailed his 2018/19 breakthrough campaign.
Bury St Edmunds-born Lankester faces around five months of rehabilitation at which point a scan should give a clearer indication of how long it might be before he is able to return to action.
Lankester was a guest on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch on Saturday when he spoke about the upcoming op (54 mins, 28 secs).
"On Monday I’ll be going in for surgery and for four to five months after that I’ll have another scan and we’ll see what the outcome is after that,” he said.
"We’ve got a great physio team here and medical staff and I’m seeing the best specialists in London so that’s all I can ask for to get this sorted.”

The academy product says he hopes the surgery will get the problem sorted once and for all.
"Definitely it’s frustrating,” he admitted. "When it first happened last season I was just getting in the team.
"But obviously these things happen and you’re never going to go through a career without injury, so to have it now and get it sorted now, hopefully, it’ll leave me to it for the rest of my career.”
