Blues Target Elliott Back in Training - Ipswich Town News

Recent Town target Tom Elliott is back in training with Millwall following the hamstring injury which scuppered his loan move to the Blues.

Elliott was all set to join Town for the season but his recovery from the hamstring injury he had suffered early in pre-season wasn’t as far down the line as had been expected, while he is also understood to have had a shoulder problem, and Town put the move on hold.

Subsequently, manager Paul Lambert said the proposed switch was "not going to happen”, however, if the 28-year-old proves his fitness prior to the League One transfer window closing on September 2nd - and Town haven’t recruited one of the other strikers on their list of potential signings in the meantime - then it’s far from impossible that the Blues could revisit their interest.

"Tom is back in full training and looking really sharp,” Lions manager Neil Harris told the South London Press.

"He has got to play some minutes but he won’t be involved at West Brom [in the Carabao Cup this evening] — it is too soon.

"We’re very clear on Tom — the boys love him and it’s great to have him back. If there is something out there which is going to suit him and the club then we’ll consider it. If it doesn’t then he stays and is a great option for us.”

Former Leeds, Cambridge and AFC Wimbledon man Elliott is contracted to Millwall until the end of the season.

Elsewhere, ex-Blues trialist Jon Guthrie has joined Scottish Premiership side Livingston on a two-year deal.

The former Walsall central defender joined up with Town last month and featured in the friendlies against Notts County and Cambridge United.

However, another centre-half on trial at the same time, James Wilson, signed a short-term deal until January and 27-year-old Guthrie moved on without having been offered terms at Portman Road.
