Chambers Drops to Bench as Blues Face AFC Wimbledon - Ipswich Town News

Skipper Luke Chambers drops to the bench as Blues boss Paul Lambert makes three changes for the first ever visit of AFC Wimbledon.

Lambert hinted on Saturday after the 2-2 draw at Peterborough, in which the skipper headed a last-gasp equaliser, that he would look to rest Chambers on occasion.

"You’ve also got to remember when you’re 34 and there’s 46 games plus cup games that it’s impossible to play every time,” he said.

"Without sounding disrespectful, you’re in the twilight of your career when you hit that age so he’ll need breaks at times Luke.

"He’s done fabulous since I’ve been at the club and it’s a brilliant header. We’ll take the point and, as I said before, we’re undefeated.”

James Wilson comes into the back four alongside Luke Woolfenden with Janoi Donacien and Myles Kenlock the full-backs and Tomas Holy is in goal.

Lambert has switched to a central midfield three with Andre Dozzell making his first League One start of the season alongside Flynn Downes and Cole Skuse, who wears the captain’s armband.

In the front three, Idris El Mizouni starts for the first time this season on the left with Danny Rowe on the right and James Norwood in the centre.

Gwion Edwards and Kayden Jackson also drop to the bench, alongside new loanee Anthony Georgiou. Kane Vincent-Young misses out, presumably due to the toe injury he was suffering with at the weekend.

For AFC Wimbledon, ex-Blues Shane McLoughlin and Dylan Connolly are on the bench, while there is a late change of referee with Antony Coggins taking over from Robert Jones.

Town: Holy, Donacien, Woolfenden, Wilson, Kenlock, Skuse (c), Dozzell, Downes, El Mizouni, Rowe, Norwood. Subs: Norris, Chambers, Edwards, Jackson, Judge, Georgiou, Huws.

AFC Wimbledon: Trott, O’Neill, Thomas, McDonald, Kalambayi, Guinness-Walker, Reilly, Hartigan, Wagstaff (c), Folivi, Appiah. Subs: Tzanev, Roscrow, Pinnock, Connolly, McLoughlin, Osew, Pigott. Referee: Antony Coggins.
