Nash "Front Runner" for Manager's Job at St Patrick's Athletic - Ipswich Town News

Town U23s coach Gerard Nash is reportedly the leading candidate to take over as manager at League of Ireland side St Patrick’s Athletic.

According to the Irish Mirror, Nash, 33, is the "front runner” for the job having been in "advanced talks” with St Pat’s, who are based in Dublin, his hometown. However, sources at the Richmond Park club are reported to have said that the deal is not yet done.

Former manager Harry Kenny resigned by mutual consent on Saturday with St Pat's fifth in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Saints director of football, Ger O'Brien, is currently in caretaker charge.

Nash, who led Town’s U23s to the Professional Development League Two South title last season, was also linked with the St Pat’s job last October when then-Blues boss Paul Hurst said it was no surprise to him that clubs were showing interest.

"With Gerard, he came to see me about that situation,” Hurst said. "He's someone who is very well thought of with the [FAI] from him doing his courses and his work over there. So I think it’s only natural that he’s going to be linked to jobs.”

Nash has been in his current job at Town since 2016 having previously been in charge of the U18s. The former central defender joined the Blues as a 15-year-old but saw his playing career end at 19 after only one sub appearance for Town and a handful of games on loan at Hartlepool and Southend following a succession of serious knee injuries.

He subsequently joined the coaching staff at Playford Road and has progressed through the ranks.
