Nydam Staying Positive During Recovery - Ipswich Town News

Tristan Nydam says he’s staying positive and that his recovery from the broken ankle he suffered during pre-season is progressing well.

"I’m good, positive, my recovery is coming on alright, I’m just not doing too much at the moment,” the 19-year-old said in an interview with BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch (1hr 12mins 51secs).

"I’m in my cast for another three weeks and then I’ll probably be able to start full weight-bearing and a bit more in the gym.

"Now I can put a little bit more weight through it, I’ve started doing a bit of upper body work in the gym.”

He says he’s likely to return to action early next year: "Probably around February time I’ll be back, six months.”

Recalling what looked a very painful injury, suffered in the friendly at Notts County, Nydam added: "It wasn’t too nice, it didn’t feel too nice. I didn’t looked at my leg because I knew it was out of place, I never looked down.”

Nydam made only one senior start and five sub appearances last season, one game from the bench for the Blues and the rest during a frustrating loan spell in Scotland during the first half of the season.

"Last year was a bit of a lost year and I was hoping to kick-on a bit this season,” Nydam reflected. "Unfortunately, these things happen in football.

"[My aim now is] hopefully to kick-on when I’m back and then kick-on next season as well, hopefully play as much as I can.”

While primarily a central midfield player, the England U19 international played at left-back during pre-season and says could be in that role that he returns to the team in the final months of the campaign.

"I don’t see why not,” the Zimbabwe-born, Colchester-based youngster added. "We’ve got a lot of centre mids here. I’ve played at left-back previously in the academy, so I don’t see why I can’t play there now.”
