Folami Targeting First-Team Return - Ipswich Town News

Striker Ben Folami is targeting a return to the first team having got back into U23s action on Monday following his long injury lay-off.

The Australian U19 international, who made one senior start and three sub appearances for the Blues in the 2017/18 season, suffered a torn achilles in an U23s game at Cardiff in January and had been out until playing the first 63 minutes of Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Portman Road.

"I didn’t expect to play that long because I didn’t think I’d last that long to be honest,” the 20-year-old told the club website.

"I got through it with no problems and I’m really pleased. Touch wood that will be it for injuries for a while.

"There has been no reaction to playing on Monday and I’m all good to go now.

"I’ve obviously got to build my fitness levels up; look to get my sharpness back and then push on from there.

"It was great to be involved in the first team back then and obviously I want to get back to that level. It’s down to me to impress the gaffer and take my chance if it comes along.”

Folami is likely to play for the U23s again on Monday when they take on Burnley at Curzon Ashton’s Tameside Stadium (KO 1pm).
