Split Loyalties for Navy Blue - Ipswich Town News
Town fan Glyn Duffell will have split loyalties when the Blues visit Gillingham on Saturday afternoon.
Glyn is the Executive Officer of the Royal Navy’s newest warship, HMS Medway, which was commissioned today in Chatham with the crew set to be at Saturday’s game.
"This Saturday, my ship HMS Medway is in Chatham and the crew is marching through the town to receive the freedom of the town as part of our commissioning ceremony,” Glyn, who hails from Martlesham Heath and who has been a Blues fan for 30 years, told TWTD.
"For any Town fans visiting, the ceremony will take place on the crossroads of High Street and Military Road in Chatham from 11am. Any Town fans coming along would be hugely appreciated!
"Later in the day, my crew will be at Priestfield for the match, kindly hosted by Gillingham FC, in order to establish our affiliation with the club. We will be doing various things at the match, including a potential march round the pitch.
"Although becoming affiliated with Gillingham, I am a lifelong Town fan and it would be great for the ship to receive the support of the travelling Blue Army.”
HMS Medway, a patrol vessel, will be used for counter-terrorism, anti-smuggling operations and disaster-relief.
