Skuse Proud to Have Reached 250 Appearance Milestone - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Cole Skuse says he’s very proud to have hit the 250 appearance mark for the Blues.

The 33-year-old, who joined Town after leaving hometown club Bristol City in the summer of 2013, played his 250th game for the club away against the MK Dons last Tuesday and took his total to 251 at Gillingham on Saturday.

"I'm very proud, but I didn't actually know I'd got to that number, my wife had to tell me before the 249th game!" Skuse confessed to the club website.

"It came as a surprise but it's certainly something to be proud of. It's a big achievement when I think about it.

"To play more than 300 games for Bristol City, my boyhood club, and then get such a good move here and go on to make 250 appearances is a massive honour - not just for me but also my family.

"I've met some amazing people here, a lot of which are behind the scenes. They're the ones that help you achieve things like this and I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you to those people."

Speaking yesterday, captain Luke Chambers, who is close friends with Skuse, paid his tribute: "Fantastic servant, he doesn’t get the praise he deserves and all he’s ever done is the job he’s been asked to do by the managers.

"He’s done it very, very well and if you’re a player you want him in your team.

"I’m delighted for him that he’s been able to be here and do the job he’s done for the club and hopefully we can continue to do that moving forward so that we can win promotion.”

Manager Paul Lambert similarly lauded Skuse a fortnight ago: "I think he’s done really well. As I said before, I wish I had Cole maybe when he was 25 or 26. He’s getting to that age where it does catch you at certain times but he’s started brilliantly.

"I say I wish I’d had him at 25 or 26 because I think he has so much to offer with his passing ability, which is second to none.

"I’ve just got him probably at the wrong age, even though he’s still playing really well for us.”

Lambert added that he believes Skuse should have played at a higher level with former Reading boss Steve Coppell once having shown interest in taking him into the top flight when the Royals were in the Premier League.

"He should have done with his passing level, in my opinion,” Lambert said. "For one reason or another he didn’t, I don’t know why.

"I had some really good players that have worked under me with the same passing ability as Cole and those lads have played in the Premier League. So I don’t see why he shouldn’t have been that level of player.”
