Blues right-back Barry Cotter has joined Vanarama National League South Chelmsford City on a month’s loan.
The 20-year-old joined the Blues from Limerick in January 2018 and made his senior debut in Mick McCarthy’s final game in charge, the 1-0 victory over Barnsley in April of the same year, and made a big impression on fans.
The former Republic of Ireland U19 international, who also operates at centre-half, came on as a late sub in the 4-0 win at Reading later the same month but hasn’t featured for the first team since and wasn't included in the senior squad which travelled to Germany in pre-season, although retained his squad number, 37.
In August, Cotter joined fellow Irish youngster Aaron Drinan on trial with Swedish club GAIS but returned the following week while the striker moved to the Gothenburg club on loan.
Cotter, who is contracted to Town until the end of June 2021 with the club having an option for a further season, could make his Chelmsford debut away to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.
