Blues boss Paul Lambert believes Sunderland were wrong to sack their manager Jack Ross yesterday, believing his fellow Scott should have been given more time.
Ross, 43, was dismissed by the Black Cats, who are currently sixth in League One, eight points behind leaders Town, having finished fifth last season before losing the play-off final to Charlton. They were also the beaten finalists in the Checkatrade Trophy when Portsmouth carried off the trophy.
The former St Mirren manager joined the Wearsiders in the summer of 2018 having been very much in the running for the boss’s job at Portman Road after impressing in interviews.
"I don’t think he has had long enough at all - he’s started to rebuild a club which was going down and down,” Lambert told BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound.
"It’s probably unfair I think. I think people look at the division and what happened last year, where Sunderland are in stature as a club, and think they’ve got a divine right to be up there.
"I’m never really surprised by football because of the way the game is - people lose jobs even when things are going well.”
