Tractor Girls Extend Winning Run - Ipswich Town News

Ipswich Town Women took their FAWNL South East Division One winning run to six matches by defeating Cambridge City 3-1 at the Goldstar Stadium, Felixstowe last night. Lindsey Cooper opened the scoring before skipper Amanda Crump netted twice.

It took Cooper only five minutes to out the Tractor Girls in front, the defender heading a Crump freekick past Cambridge keeper Dominika Szary.

Sophie Peskett saw a shot saved by Szary, but the visitors began to get more into the game and might have levelled through Sofia Castiglione’s freekick but Town keeper Nikita Runnacles saved.

However, moments later, Cambridge were on terms. Laura Mills sent a dangerous ball across goal and Megan Tonks headed home.

Town got back in front seven minutes prior to the break via skipper Crump, who ran on to Lucy Egan’s through ball and rounded the keeper before stroking into the empty net.

Both sides had chances early in the second half, with Crump and Natasha Thomas hitting the post for the Blues, but it took until 83rd minute for the Town to cement their lead.

Crump seized on a loose ball on the edge of the box and curled a left-footed strike into the corner of the net to claim her 10th goal of the season and to seal another three points.

The result sees the Tractor Girls drop to second behind Billericay on goal difference but with a game in hand on the Essex side.

The Tractor Girls are in home action again this Sunday when they take on Royston Town in their rearranged Women’s FA Cup second qualifying round tie (KO 2pm).

Town: Runnacles, Pannifer, Cooper, Egan, Hubbard, Lafayette, Sutherland, Crump (c), Cossey (Grey 61), Peskett (Abrehart 76), Thomas (Biggs 76). Unused: Jackson. Att: 134.
