Town Draw Lincoln at Home in FA Cup - Ipswich Town News

Town have drawn fellow League One side Lincoln City at home in the first round of the FA Cup.

The Blues were first out of the hat at this evening's draw, which took place at Maldon & Tiptree.

The tie is a rerun of the third round meeting between the teams in 2016/17 which the Imps won 1-0 in a replay at Sincil Bank following a 2-2 draw at Portman Road.

Back then the Blues were in the Championship and Lincoln, who are currently 12th in League One, in the Vanarama National League.

That game is the only previous cup tie between the two teams. Town have won five of the league games between the sides, all of which have been in the second tier, and Lincoln three with two ending in draws.

The teams are due to meet in League One at Sincil Bank on Sunday 29th December and at Portman Road on Saturday 25th January.

The tie will see James Wilson face his old club, while Danny Rowe and Jordan Roberts could also feature against their former loan side. Town keeper-coach Jimmy Walker was with Lincoln in the same role prior to his stint with Sunderland before joining the Blues.

Ex-Town loanee Callum Connolly is currently on loan with the Imps from Everton.

First round ties will be played over the weekend of Saturday 9th November.

Coincidentally, it's the third time in four years that Town have been the first team out of the hat in an FA Cup draw. The 2017 third round tie with the Imps was also first out of the hat, as was Sheffield United's visit the following season at the same stage.

The Blues will be playing at the first round stage of the competition they won in 1978 for the first time since the 1956/57 campaign when they defeated Hastings United 4-0 at Portman Road.

Town last won an FA Cup tie back in January 2010 when they beat Blackpool 2-1 in the third round at Bloomfield Road during Roy Keane’s time in charge.

Since then they have played 14 matches in the competition, four draws and 10 defeats.

Last season they were beaten 1-0 by Sunday’s opponents Accrington Stanley at the Crown Ground.
