ITFC Women Thrash Canaries in FA Cup - Ipswich Town News

Ipswich Town Women thrashed local rivals Norwich City 6-1 at the Goldstar Ground, Felixstowe this afternoon to progress to the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup.

The Tractor Girls, who beat the Canaries 4-1 in the home league fixture earlier this season, went ahead in only the third minute via the first shot of the game, Anna Grey netting her first senior goal.

Nine minutes later, it was 2-0, Natasha Thomas finishing from close range after good work from Grey on the left.

Thomas made it 3-0 with her second on 22, then seven minutes before the break Paige Peake hit the fourth, a rebound from her own penalty which had struck the post after Eloise King had been brought down.

Norwich pulled a goal back six minutes after the restart but the Blues restored their four-goal advantage on 58 when Sophie Peskett rebounded a Grey shot which the Canaries’ keeper had spilled.

Town, who were watched by their second-highest crowd of the season, 667, had further chances to add to their lead but didn’t make it 6-1 until the 89th minute when sub Maddie Biggs shot home via a deflection.

"Another good turnout from our supporters today, nowhere near our best performance but delighted to win another derby and progress into the next round of the Women’s FA Cup,” said manager Joe Sheehan.

Town: Jackson, Wilson, Egan, Thomas, Crump (c), King (Biggs 46), Cooper, Lafayette, Grey, Peake (Pannifer 79), Peskett (Cossey 63). Unused: Hubbard, Stretch, Dunn, Sutherland. Att: 667.
