ITFC Women Aiming to Return to Top at Enfield - Ipswich Town News

Ipswich Town Women return to FAWNL Division One South-East action on Sunday when they take on Enfield Town Ladies away at the QE Stadium (KO 2pm).

The Tractor Girls are currently second on goal difference behind Billericay but with Sunday’s match their game in hand.

Defender Nicole Pannifer says the squad will be going into the fixture in a confident mood having continued their season's good form by beating deadly rivals Norwich City 6-1 in the FA Cup last Sunday.

"We’ve had a number of good performances now and, of course, it’s always good to get a good result against our greatest rivals,” she said.

Enfield have been something of a bogey side for Town in recent seasons but the 25-year-old insists that’s not overly concerning the squad going into the match.

"It’s not something we tend to focus on,” she reflected. "We know it’s there, particularly some of the older members of the squad know that from over the last few years, but we know that we’re capable of turning out a good performance against any team so we’ll go into the match confident.

"I don’t know what it is about Enfield but they have been one of those teams historically but we’re quite a newly put together team this year, we’ve had quite a lot of changes, so I’m sure that will bring good things for us.”

A win on Sunday would put Town three points clear with none of the other sides at the top of the table in action but Pannifer isn’t giving the match too much additional significance.

"Every game this season is important to us,” she added. "We can’t afford to slip up too many points along the way, so it’s just as important as any other game that we pick up the three points.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Eloise King will be out of action for three weeks after suffering an ankle injury in the victory over the Canaries.
