Town Draw Exeter City Away in Leasing.com Trophy Third Round - Ipswich Town News

Town face a long away trip to League Two Exeter City in the third round of the Leasing.com Trophy.

The Blues last faced the Grecians at St James' Park in the first round of last season's Carabao Cup when the home side won a penalty shoot-out 4-2 after a 1-1 draw.

Kayden Jackson opened the scoring and ex-Blues defender Troy Brown levelled for the Devon side, while another former Town man Lee Martin hit the decisive penalty.

Overall, the Blues have won 11 of the 27 meetings between the sides (eight in the league), nine have ended in draws (eight in the league), while Exeter have won seven (six).

The draw was regionalised on a north-south basis for the final time in this year’s competition.

Round of 16 ties will be played in the week commencing January 6th, a few days after the Blues could be in the South-West for a third round FA Cup tie.

If Town beat Coventry in next Tuesday's second round replay they will face the winner of the Plymouth-Bristol Rovers replay, which is being played on Tuesday 17th December.
