Thomas Frandsen, the Danish international watched recently by Town, has told his club Viborg he will not be signing a new contract when his current deal runs out at the end of the season. The midfielder says he is interested in moving to England and is aware of media reports of interest from “certain clubs”.
Two weeks ago a number of Danish national newspapers reported that Town were watching Frandsen and that they may be about to make a move.
Neither George Burley nor Viborg director Morten Jensen would confirm or deny Town interest in the 26-year-old who only just missed out on a place in the Danish World Cup squad.
Frandsen's refusal to sign a contract is likely to mean he is available for a bargain fee with Viborg keen to get something for their player before he is available on a Bosman next summer. Our man in Denmark imagines a fee of around £300,000-£400,000 might be acceptable.
Of course, Town's financial position at present does not allow them to go into the market for new players. However, should one or two of the higher earners move on, as painful a thought as that may be, Frandsen could be a man Town look to in order to strengthen their central midfield.
