Avenir Beggen Preview - Ipswich Town News

Town manager George Burley will be hoping to buck the trend this evening against FC Avenir Beggen, for every time we played an away fixture in the UEFA Cup last year, we lost the following game on our return to league action. As Town are widely tipped to make easy work of this qualifying game, George Burley may make a few changes and opt to rest a couple of first team players ahead of Sunday's important home game against Leicester.

Burley is forced to change a few players with injuries befalling the two scorers at Walsall. Darren Ambrose is still receiving treatment to his swollen and cut lip, and Marcus Bent has a hamstring injury. With Portsmouth in possible transfer negotiations with Town, the Pompey boss may wish that Marcus Stewart sit this out leaving Counago, Armstrong, Darren Bent and Naylor fighting for the places up front.

Burley has taken a youthful squad with him to Luxemborg. Matt Richards is very likely to figure from the start having impressed in pre-season, with Ian Westlake, Justin Miller and James Pullen also in the squad. Andy Marshall would be very upset if Pullen wore the goalkeepers jersey tonight as he's yet to play in a UEFA match having missed out on Norwich's little foray a few years ago and Sereni being first choice last year.
