UEFA Afternoon Kick-Off - Ipswich Town News

Town's UEFA Cup first round away leg with FK Sartid is likely to be an early afternoon kick-off due their home ground, the Sportski Kompleks, having no floodlights.

The ground, which is quoted on some sites as having a 17,200 capacity and which is currently undergoing building work, is being fitted with temporary seating for the match as UEFA don't allow standing areas for their games.

The reputation of the Sartid fans has cause a few concerns amongst Town supporters, however, our contacts in Serbia say that they have no really big problem, although there have been a couple of incidents over the years, but nothing too serious.

Dundee fans who went there for their Intertoto Cup match last season are reported to have been made welcome.

Sartid are said to be a very skillful side, as Yugoslav sides tend to be, although by international standards Yugoslav football is not particularly good at present.

Smederevo is a small industrial town which is visible from Belgrade, at least the chimneys pumping smoke are anyway. Like Belgrade and much of that area there is some evidence of the NATO bombings.

Belgrade is likely to provide the greater social appeal and is reported to be cheap by British standards.

Sartid are reported to have played poorly this weekend as they drew 2-2 at home to Mogren.

Town have announced that the only official trips to Serbia will be one-day trips due to a shortage of hotels in Belgrade. The club say more details will be known soon.

Fans travelling to Yugoslavia will require visas, information available here: http:// www.yugoslavembassy.org.uk
