Stockwell to Norwich - Ipswich Town News

The unthinkable may be about to happen with rumours abound that Mickey Stockwell may be interesting Nationwide Division One League side Norwich City.

Budgie manager Bryan Hamilton is reported to be monitoring the situation as is Colchester United manager Steve Whitton who has reiterated his interest in the long-time Town servant.

Meanwhile TWTD is setting up an email address for Town fans to send Mickey their appreciation for his years of service to Town. This will be available through the website and the address is thanksmickey@twtd.co.uk

Town have confirmed that Sean Friars and Neil Midgley will be offered new contracts as has goalkeeper Keith Branagan. Branagan is also of interest to Tranmere Rovers.

Richard Naylor and Mark Venus both underwent operations yesterday. Naylor has had a long-term problem with tendinitis, whilst Venus has an ankle problem. Both are looking to be fit for the beginning of the new season.

Town's pre-season friendly with Colchester may be in doubt after the cancellation of the Bobby Moore Cup. The game, scheduled for July 28th at Layer Road, was to be part of the tournament which was to involve Leyton Orient and Southend. Colchester have stated that they hope the game with Town will go ahead.

Town's pre-season tour will be to Finland, Latvia and Estonia. Their opponents include Finland's VPS, Estonians Flora and FK Riga of Latvia. The tour will be between July 20th and 26th followed (probably) by the Colchester game and then the friendly with AZ Alkmaar on July 28th at Portman Road. Premiership fixtures will be released later this month.

Work on the Churchman's development is not going ahead quite as planned. The play-offs have meant that there is insufficient time to get the new tier complete and not affect attendances next season. Instead the stand will be built in two stages in order not to affect crowds.
