Reserves 9-1 Orient - Ipswich Town News

A deluge of first half goals took a Town reserve side to victory over Leyton Orient's reserves in a friendly at the Training Centre this afternoon. Richard Naylor scored a hat-trick while Mark Venus and Alun Armstrong both notched braces.

The Blues went ahead on 13 when Naylor headed home from an Erdem Artun cross from the right.

The away side were back on terms five minutes later when trialist Michael Jaffo hit a right-foot shot past Pullen in the Town goal.

It wasn't long before the goals started to come, Venus walloping a low shot into the net from a freekick a minute after Orient's goal.

On 21 Alun Armstrong hit a left-foot shot back across the Orient keeper from a ball forward by Venus to score the third.

Six minutes later it was Armstrong's turn to score again, stabbing in a Naylor cross from close-in.

Armstrong returned the favour on the half hour, playing in Naylor for his second and Town's fifth.

Mark Venus hit his second on 33 from another freekick, this one exoceting into the top right corner of the Orient net.

Town's seventh saw Naylor notch his hat-trick after a ball through from Venus and Tommy Miller notched the eighth just before half-time.

The break saw a minute's silence in remembrance of those who died a year ago today.

Most of the senior Blues made way at half-time, Armstrong, Venus, Miller and McGreal all being replaced by youngsters. Armstrong and Venus both indicated that they had come through the game OK and are likely to be in the squad for Sunday.

The second half was a closer affair with the only goal coming just after the hour, scored by sub Robert Dickinson from a Robinson cross.

Town side: Pullen, Artun, Richards, McGreal (Beevers), J Miller, Venus (Hogg), Abidallah, T Miller (Bloomfield), Naylor (Robinson), Armstrong (Logan), Westlake (Dickinson).
