New Battle for Cundy? - Ipswich Town News

Former Town defender Jason Cundy is waiting to hear whether the cancer he successfully overcame five years ago has returned. Cundy had an exploratory operation yesterday after doctors spotted possible signs of cancer in a routine check-up.

The ex-Spurs and Portsmouth man faces a ten-day wait before he discovers if he faces another battle.

Cundy's wife Lizzie, an actress, said yesterday: "Jason has gone into hospital for a biopsy to see if there is a possiblility the cancer has come back.

"The oncologist saw some warning signs and there was a feeling he had to go through another operation. He might need radiotherapy."

Cundy is one of the founders of the Cancer Campaign in Suffolk and overcame testicular cancer in early 1997, returning to Town action by the beginning of the 1997/98 season.

He left Town in the summer of 1999 after missing much of the previous season with an ankle injury. He moved to Portsmouth but a knee problem ended his career just months after moving to Fratton Park.
