Millers Hoaxed? - Ipswich Town News

Town chairman David Sheepshanks has continued to deny that his club have made an approach to Rotherham for manager Ronnie Moore. Sheepshanks has even gone so far as to suggest the Millmoor club may have been the victims of a hoax.

On Friday we reported that Town had asked permission to talk to Moore, something refused by the South Yorkshire club.

Then on Saturday evening Rotherham released a statement which confirmed that they had refused the approach from Town.

Moore subsequently said he would speak to his chairman about being given permission to talk to Town.

However, Sheesphanks says he is unaware of these overtures: "I would love to know where those rumours came from.

"I don't even know the Rotherham chairman's name. We have had absolutely no contact with Rotherham or any other club.

"Where this story came from I have no idea. Whether it was a hoax call or whether I've got some impersonator, I really don't know."

Sheepshanks says he is impressed with what Liverpudlian Moore has achieved with Rotherham and says that he could be on his short-list: "I am very pleased that people of Ronnie Moore's calibre think highly of the job.

"The management role at Ipswich is a unique job and we are certainly looking to interview from a very high calibre of candidate.

"We have been compiling a list and if we need to contact certain clubs Ronnie Moore may or may not be on that list.

"He has done wonderful things with Rotherham and we would be foolish not to think of people like him."
