Stoke City are looking to gain £1 million compensation from Sunderland for the loss of manager Steve Cotterill before turning to George Burley to take over at the Britannia Stadium.

Whether the former Blues' boss would be interested in a move to the Potteries remains to be seen and he said last week there had already been a number of clubs contacting him about vacancies.
