Racism Complaint Ignored? - Ipswich Town News

A report in the Observer at the weekend claims that Town stewards ignored a complaint regarding racist abuse at the recent East Anglian derby. The complaint came from a Norwich supporter about another Canaries fan.

The report says that a Norwich fan started chanting abuse at Marcus Bent which failed to be picked up on by stewards.

Another supporter, Eliot Taylor, reported the incident, but says nothing was done about it: "The Ipswich stewards thought I was joking and took no action. The racist was not ejected; nobody even had a word with him. He was committing a criminal offence."

Town have always been firmly against racism at Portman Road and the recent abuse aimed at Bent, Jermaine Wright and Finidi George in Serbia was condemned by the club and individual players.

Speaking to TWTD a club spokesperson asked the Norwich fan who witnessed the incident to come forward: "We are of course distressed to hear the report, but we have no record of the incident in our match report of the Norwich game.

"However, we would encourage the supporter who witnessed the incident to contact our safety officer Geoff Sheppard who will actively investigate it."
