Venus Drink-Drive Charge - Ipswich Town News

Veteran Town defender Mark Venus will appear in court on Thursday charged with drink-driving. The 35-year-old was left out of the squad travelling to the Czech Republic for the UEFA Cup second round, second leg match against Slovan Liberec.

Venus was arrested in Colchester on Sunday and released on police bail with the case being heard at Colchester Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Town chairman David Sheepshanks commented on the charge: "This is a matter for the police and, if appropriate, any internal action will remain private.

"All our players and senior staff understand that they have a privileged position in society representing this club."
